Sony is removing the Praises system that came with the PlayStation 5

This year, Sony decided to remove the Praise feature, which is used much less than expected. The PlayStation 5 Community Rewards feature allowed players to praise other players for helpful and generous actions. However, Sony doesn’t seem to be getting the desired interaction with the Compliments feature.

Sony failed with PlayStation 5 sales!

PlayStation 5 sales figures have crossed the 20 million mark. Sony, which sold 21.7 million PS5s in two years, reported losses on PS Plus.

The PlayStation support page states the following regarding the removal of the praise feature:

In Fall 2022, the Praises feature will no longer be supported on PlayStation 5. The feature has not seen the level of usage we expected, so we are shifting the focus of our work. We encourage the community to continue sending positive messages to each other.

The compliment feature was originally introduced to make players appreciate each other. After completing an online match, players can select a player to be awarded one of four prizes. These options are listed as follows: Helpful, Sincere, Sportsman, and Leader.

The idea was to capture positive communication between multiplayer communities. The infrastructure of the system is also quite solid. Players can only send compliments to players outside of their friends list. It is also not possible to send a second praise to the same player within 12 hours.

Although Sony is removing this praise system, it also gives the good news of a new reward system to players. The company announced its new PS Stars loyalty program, which rewards PS4 and PS5 players. Players will collect points by playing certain games or winning certain trophies through the PS Stars system. These points can then be redeemed for digital collections and in the PS Store. The new system is expected to be used worldwide this year.

Sony seems to care more about how many times the game is played. So what do you think of Sony’s removal of the Praise system? You can share your opinion with us in the comment section.
